A Curriculum Planning Success Story
Jackie
Middle School Principal

My staff and I had the opportunity to work with Room to Discover to support conceptual learning, hands-on instruction, and differentiation in our math classes.
We adopted Room to Discover’s 3-Bridges Design for Learning in all of our middle school math classes. I found our consultant to be supportive, hard-working, and innovative. Throughout the engagement, he helped teachers identify areas for growth and adapted his support to meet the needs of our school and individual teachers.
This system allowed us to tailor instruction to individual student needs, while targeting grade level standards. Our consultant’s expertise in classroom practice, technology integration, and curriculum planning contributed to the overwhelming success of our initiative.
Our curriculum planning initiative contributed to significant growth in student achievement this past school year. Our rising 7th grade class doubled its proficiency on state tests, while the number of students severely below grade level dropped 10%.
These gains were achieved through the hard work of our students, faculty, and leadership team. Room to Discover aligned their support with our ongoing initiatives, creating a collaborative atmosphere for professional learning. I would recommend them and the 3-Bridges Design for Learning to any school looking to increase student engagement and achievement.
A Personalized Learning Success Story
Ricky
Middle School Math Teacher
Brooklyn, NY
When I first introduced personalized learning, it was scary. I hadn’t seen anything like it in other classrooms. I told myself I would stop if my students stopped making progress, but we never got to that point.
Working with a coach provided me with a point of reference. It was comforting to have that support while trying something new. As with most endeavors, the right support is a vital element of success.
Before, they were just focused on getting a good grade. Now, they ask questions that reflect a growth mindset and a more genuine approach to learning.
This approach allowed me to build my students up from where they were starting, so they could handle grade level work. As a result, they were more engaged, and their engagement led to higher achievement.
Perhaps the best feature of personalized learning is that no student gets overwhelmed, to where the can’t handle the material. No student gets bored as a result of the work being too easy.
One Teacher’s Inquiry-Based Learning Story
Veronica
Elementary Math Teacher
Queens, NY
The thing that most impressed me is how Room to Discover tailored their support to our needs and interests. They had a wealth of knowledge at their fingertips, and could provide insights into almost any educational topic.
In just ten days, we learned strategies for classroom management, planning, and assessment, which allowed us to make Inquiry-Based Learning work for our students. When we asked for a resource they didn’t have, they helped us make our own!
Instead of telling us what to do, our coach taught us by example. He made us feel comfortable and confident teaching Inquiry-Based Math.

I’ve been to some great workshops, but often felt overwhelmed using what I’d learned in my classroom. But our coach jumped in without missing a beat whenever I needed help. He even helped my students improve their communication and collaboration skills.
